Elements Collide

This image is comprised of over 150 photos captured at 30 seconds, layered to show the movement of the stars and the passing of time over a period of nearly two hours. Taken in August 2015 during the peak of the annual Perseid Meteor shower. In the remote alpine wilderness, under the darkness of the New Moon, we witnessed more meteors here than any other night, shooting across the sky at random in flashes of color and light. The red glow in the sky is the result of the Thompson Creek Fire. Wildfires are a normal occurrence, and are a part of the cycle of nature. However, climate change is contributing to the increased frequency and intensity of summer fires. Hidden Lake, Montana.

Ancient starlight reflects in the mirrored surface of the terraces, where just below the water, descendants of ancient organisms thrive.
